Privacy policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026
Spotter & Ollie makes bilingual nature activity packs for families. We collect as little personal information as we can. The only thing we ever ask about a child is a first name, and only when you order a personalised item such as the Gift bundle's explorer badge. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
1. Who we are
Spotter & Ollie is a registered business based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia (ABN 86 965 566 835). In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Spotter & Ollie. "You" means anyone who visits spotterandollie.com.au, buys from us, joins our waitlist or visits our market stall.
We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- When you order: your name, email address, phone number, billing and delivery address, and your order details. For personalised items such as the Gift bundle, we also ask for the child's first name to print on the explorer badge.
- When you join the waitlist: your first name, email address, and, if you choose to tell us, your postcode, the age bands of your children (for example 6–7) and the language you'd like our emails in.
- When you contact us: your name, email address and what you write to us.
- At our market stall or in family testing: if you fill in our feedback survey, your answers (for example what you liked and what price feels fair). The survey does not ask for your name or contact details.
Payment information
Payments are processed by Shopify Payments. We never see or store your full card number.
Information collected automatically
When you visit our website, our store platform (Shopify) and [Apps and tools] collect technical information, such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, items added to your cart and how you arrived at our site. This is mostly done with cookies (see section 8).
3. Children's privacy
Our products are for children, but our website and shop are for adults. You must be 18 or older to buy from us or join our waitlist.
- Personalised items: for the Gift bundle's printed explorer badge sticker, we ask you, the adult buying it, for the child's first name. We use it only to print that badge sticker. We never ask for a child's surname, photo, birthday, school or contact details. You can use a nickname if you prefer.
- Everything else: where our forms ask about children, we only ask for their age bands, plus your own first name (the parent's or carer's), and only so we can send relevant information.
- The Little Park Rangers game saves progress only on the device you play on (in the browser's local storage). It collects no personal information and sends nothing to us. You can delete the progress by clearing your browser data.
- Explorer Party Packs: invitations and badge stickers have blank spaces for you to write on by hand. We do not ask for guests' names.
If you think a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
4. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- process, deliver and support your order, including pre-orders and stall pickup;
- send you order confirmations, invitation files for party packs and service messages;
- send waitlist updates and marketing emails, only if you have agreed to receive them;
- answer your questions and handle refunds, returns and complaints;
- improve our products, website and pricing, using survey answers and website statistics;
- prevent fraud and keep our website secure; and
- meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.
5. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers who help us run the business, and only what they need:
- Shopify, which hosts our website, shop and customer records;
- Shopify Payments, to process payments and refunds;
- Australia Post, to deliver your order;
- Google Workspace, for our business email and the spreadsheets where we keep anonymous survey answers;
- [Apps and tools], for email newsletters and website statistics; and
- our accountant or professional advisers, and government agencies when the law requires it (for example the Australian Taxation Office).
We may also share information if needed to protect our rights or someone's safety, or if the business is sold (in which case the buyer must keep this policy).
6. Overseas storage
Some of our service providers store information outside Australia. Shopify stores data in Canada, the United States and other countries; Google and our other providers may store data in the United States and elsewhere. We choose well-known providers with strong security and privacy commitments, but overseas laws may differ from Australian law. By using our website or ordering from us, you agree to this.
7. Marketing emails
We only send marketing emails, including waitlist updates, if you have ticked the box to receive them. We send about one or two emails a month. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to stop them. We will still send emails about orders you have placed.
8. Cookies and website statistics
Our website uses cookies and similar technology to make the cart and checkout work, remember your preferences (such as language), and understand how the site is used. Shopify's cookies are explained in Shopify's cookie policy.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, the cart and checkout may not work.
9. How we protect your information
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. Our store and email accounts use strong passwords and two-step verification. Only the business owner has access to customer records. Card payments are handled by our payment providers, not stored by us.
If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you as soon as we can and explain what you can do.
10. How long we keep it
- Order and payment records: 5 years, as Australian tax law requires. A child's first name given for a personalised item stays only with that order, is never added to our mailing list and is never used for anything else.
- Waitlist and newsletter details: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- Emails you send us: up to 2 years after we last hear from you.
- Anonymous survey answers: as long as they are useful, since they don't identify you.
After that we delete the information or remove anything that identifies you.
11. Your choices: access, correction and deletion
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct information that is wrong or out of date; or
- delete your information, unless we must keep it by law (such as order records for tax).
Email us at hello@spotterandollie.com.au. We will reply within 30 days. We don't charge for this. We may ask you to confirm your identity first.
You can deal with us without giving your name (for example, asking a question at our stall), but we need your details to deliver an order.
12. Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please email us first at hello@spotterandollie.com.au. We will reply within 30 days and try to fix it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our business or the law changes. We will post the new version on this page with a new "Last updated" date. If a change is significant, we will email waitlist members and customers.
